A YouTube Channel Recommendation

The 2019 Academy Award nominations were announced early yesterday morning and a lot of us (myself included) were not too happy with them. Twitter and blogs were a flutter with criticism for various reasons. Some of us were angry with Best Picture nominees (No If Beale Street Could Talk, but Vice got a nomination? Really?) and some of us were disappointed with actor snubs (No Toni Collette or Elsie Fisher? Really?), but that doesn’t mean that the show won’t go on. For years the Academy Award members have nominated/awarded films and actors for a multitude of outside factors that have nothing to do with the merit of the actual films or performances. This usually causes fans of the prestigious ceremony to question the justice of it all and wonder why we even bother paying attention, but at the end of the day, for whatever reason, we still manage to care. Today, I am going to take the time to recommend something great to my readers. This is something that I’ve never done before, but I feel like today is the best time to do the unordinary (especially considering that The Academy, for the most part, seems to be sticking with the traditional). I am going to be recommending a YouTube channel that I have recently become obsessed with, Be Kind Rewind.

YouTube has a habit of recommending me channels that end up being my favorite thing, so it should come as no surprise when I say that they’ve gotten it right again. Be Kind Rewind is a channel filled with well researched and well made videos that cover some of the most interesting and controversial Best Actress wins and snubs in Academy Awards history.  In a short amount of time, you will be informed on what the Oscars once were and how they got to where they are today. Acting as an in depth analysis of an institution that famously parades itself as being the epitome of evaluating art and high achievement in film, Be Kind Rewind revisits long forgotten history and presents it to the viewer in a stylish fashion. If you have any interest in learning about the behind the scenes machinations of awards campaigns and studio sabotage then this is just the channel for you. Check out these great videos right now to get more informed during this highly controversial awards season.
