A Podcast Recommendation

I’m thrilled that y’all seemed to enjoy my last podcast recommendation  so much. Y’all are always direct messaging me on Twitter and Snapchat to tell me about how you listen to it all the time. Well, today I’m back with another recommendation and I’m very happy to share this one with you guys because I have been enjoying it for a few years now.

Film Criticism| Film News| 9 Seasons| 45-70m

Hosted by: Matt Atchity, Alonso Duralde, Christy Lemire, Ben Mankiewicz

What The Flick?! was originally a film criticism YouTube series that was a division of The Young Turks (TYT) until it was abruptly cancelled a few months ago.  The YouTube channel was hosted by Matt Atchity, Alonso Duralde, Christy Lemire and Ben Mankiewicz (who many of us may recognize from Turner Classic Movies) and ran for several years. It had amassed a large viewership, which includes myself, and we all wondered what would happen to this cluster of unique personalities after their platform was taken from them without warning.

Thankfully, us fans didn’t have to wonder too long, because Christy Lemire soon created a spinoff podcast of the same name. This podcast has the same feel of the YouTube series and they practically didn’t miss a beat. The show follows the same schedule as the original channel, so every Thursday (and sometimes Tuesday or Friday) Lemire will post a podcast on her website that features the gang and herself  discussing/grading films they have recently seen.

What The Flick?! is special to me because these people are partially the reason I am interested in film criticism. I became an instant fan of theirs in 2011 when I stumbled across their YouTube channel while searching for reviews of Scream 4 (it’s a guilty pleasure, okay). Their chemistry and no holds barred critiques make for a delightful viewing experience. I try to catch every show and y’all should too.

EDIT: As of January 4th, 2019, the What The Flick?! team has changed their podcast name to Breakfast All Day for copyright reasons. A much lesser name, but the same great content.
