This week on my TV show recommendations, I would like to introduce my readers to the Netflix Original series, Dear White People. This show is so fantastic that I finished it the same day it premiered.
Created by writer/director Justin Simien, Dear White People stars Logan Browning as Samantha White, a student at the Ivy League college, Winchester University. White hosts a controversial radio show “Dear White People,” where she points out the many racist occurrences on campus, much to the annoyance of her white classmates. This brilliant show stars a slew of up and coming talent such as, Brandon P. Bell, Deron Horton, Antoinette Robertson, John Patrick Amedori, and many famous guest stars.
I have always been a fan of satire, and this show delivers it in spades. An episodic version of a movie of the same name, which came out my freshman year of college, this show could not be any more relevant. It tackles social issues in a fresh, inventive and hilarious way. You’ll find yourselves laughing hysterically moments before examining your own social qualms. This was a great watch. I highly recommend it.
